Our History

Oxford Teacher Services Ltd. was founded in 2014 by Professor John Howson to address the rising cost of advertising teaching vacancies and the lack of reliable market information about teacher recruitment. John and his team collected vacancies from schools across England, building a wealth of data and insights often used to highlight emerging recruitment challenges.

Building on John’s deep knowledge of the education sector, the company has grown from its original focus on teacher recruitment into a wider resource centre.

Teacher, Schools and Views on Education

This book provides a wide-ranging look at education in England during a pivotal year of the coalition government, seen through the eyes of a grassroots Liberal Democrat activist. It blends serious commentary—such as early warnings about a looming teacher supply crisis, initially dismissed as scaremongering—with lighter pieces, including an education-themed quiz.

Highlights include the December awards post, which celebrates the many contributors to education and reflects on key moments from the year. Drawn from John Howson’s blog, the posts are accessible and engaging, appealing both to general readers and to students of modern British politics. Essential reading for local politicians, the book underlines the importance of local government in education, with John offering a strong defence of its role in the face of increasing centralisation.

The Dawn of AI

In the Dawn of AI, readers are transported to the year 2035 and introduced to New Oxford - a vibrant, futuristic city built near the historic town of Oxford. New Oxford is home to Ada Ikenna, a non-verbal autistic teen, her support drone, Ace, and her older brother, Ayden. After the death of their mother, Ada channels her grief into creating AGI-powered drone companions with distinct personalities and community roles.

As the drones gain public attention, opposition quickly mounts. Councillor Carrie fuels public fear around AI, Edgar Edville sabotages the drones for personal gain, and a rogue drone, the Drone Catcher, begins targeting them.
